What Color Is Your Birthday?

Every date has exactly one color — not random, not a quiz. Your full birthday, year included, seeds a hash that lands on one precise hue, named from our 7,457-color database. Only someone born on your exact day shares it. Pick a date and meet yours.

Your full date of birth enters the math — year included. Change any part, get a different color.

How it works

Step 1 — fold the date. Your birthday becomes a seed string like 1988-october-12. The year counts, on purpose: this color belongs to your exact day, not the whole calendar's.

Step 2 — hash it. The slug runs through an FNV-1a hash. One slice of the seed picks a hue anywhere from 0° to 359.9° — uniformly, so nobody gets a favorite.

Step 3 — shape and name it. Other bits of the seed set saturation and lightness. The color is built in OKLCH, a perceptually uniform space, then converted to sRGB with a gamut clip so nothing clamps into mud. Every color gets an epithet plus its nearest match among 7,457 real named colors from CSS/X11, Resene, XKCD and ISCC-NBS.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked — a share link carries nothing but the exact date you entered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my birthday's color determined?

Your full date of birth — year, month, and day — folds into a slug like 1988-october-12, which runs through an FNV-1a hash. The seed picks a hue uniformly around the wheel; other bits of the seed set saturation and lightness. The color is built in OKLCH, then converted to sRGB with a gamut clip. Same date → same color, always.

Is it random?

No — it's deterministic and the exact same math runs every time, on any device. It just can't be reverse-engineered to look like "you," which is what makes it feel fair.

Does the year I was born matter?

Yes. The full date enters the seed, so July 4, 1988 and July 4, 2011 land on different colors. Only people born on your exact date share your color.

Can two birthdays share a color?

Same birthdate → same color, by definition. Two different dates almost never collide — possible birthdays land in a space of millions of distinct combinations. There is no reroll by design.

Where do the color names come from?

A curated 7,457-color database (CSS/X11, Resene, XKCD, ISCC-NBS and more). Your color gets an epithet plus its nearest real name — the full DB is browsable in our Color Names tool.

Can I use my color commercially?

The hex is yours to use in designs; the generated artwork and cards are © graf1x. For a physical print see our posters.

Have your name color too

Same one-to-one math, driven by your letters instead of your date. Most people run both.
