Green

Green is the color of nature and renewal. It is the most restful color for the human eye, reducing eye strain and promoting relaxation. In Western culture, green symbolizes growth, health, and environmental consciousness. In Eastern cultures, green represents youth, fertility, and new life. Green is associated with money and prosperity in the United States (the color of the dollar). Dark green conveys wealth and stability, while bright green suggests energy and freshness.

Green is the go-to color for environmental, organic, and natural brands. It is used in healthcare and wellness branding to convey health and healing. In interior design, green creates a calming, restorative atmosphere — ideal for bedrooms and offices. Green pairs well with brown for an earthy palette, with white for freshness, or with blue for a cool, natural look. Bright green is an effective accent color for CTAs, as it is associated with 'go' and positive action.

Green pigments were historically problematic. The ancient Romans used verdigris (copper acetate), which was unstable and turned brown over time. In the 18th century, Scheele's Green and Paris Green — both containing arsenic — were popular green pigments used in wallpaper, clothing, and even food coloring, causing numerous poisonings. The word 'green' comes from the Old English 'grēne', sharing roots with 'grow' and 'grass'. Green is the color of Islam, representing the paradise gardens described in the Quran.
